Which Floor For Which Room?

Choosing Wooden Flooring

When buying a wooden floor it is important to think about where it is going to be and what sort of environment it will be in. Flooring needs to be specific and so choosing the right floor can be a like a minefield.

At Timberland we have developed several things to help you choose the right floor for the right room,

The first thing to consider when buying a wooden floor is the type of floor you would like. There are three main types of wooden floor on the market; Laminate; engineered hardwood; and solid wood. Each one has good and bad things about it and has certain properties that make it better for some rooms than others.

Laminate flooring has grown in popularity over the last decade. It is the cheapest way of giving your house that wooden floor look without really getting a full wooden floor. Laminate is something that you can install yourself but there is one thing to remember about it, that it is not hard wearing. This makes laminate a good choice for a room where there is less traffic. It is not a good choice for a lounge or dining room but can work well in a spare bedroom.

Mechanically engineered flooring is a proper wood that has been attached to a different back. It is a flexible way to floor your house and has fewer limitations than solid wood floors. It can be used in any room of the house and looks very similar to solid wood flooring.

Solid wood flooring is the top dog when it comes to wooden flooring. It always looks great but there are a couple of disadvantages to having it. Solid wood flooring must not get wet as this can cause shrinkage and then your floor will not fit properly. Therefore it is best not to have solid wood flooring in the kitchen or bathroom.

When it comes to having a wooden floor installed it is also a good idea to think a little about the colour. In general light colours are good in any size room as they make small rooms look larger and large rooms look light and airy. However if you want to go for a more traditional style of floor you can accessorise and use lighting to make the room look bigger. Also if you are trying to make a room warm and cosy then try using a darker wood to achieve this look.

Overall there are lots of types of floor to choose from. so whatever your home looks like there will be something to suit you.
