Caring for your real wood floor
As with all wood products, your new hardwood
floor will need a little bit of care to ensure that it continues to look its best for years to come.
The guidelines below are of course generalised, and common sense should be exercised in all instances.
The need to apply the lacquer or oil treatments to your floor will depend on usage and wear and varies from household to household, but generally a downstairs hall is likely to need attention more frequently than an upstairs bedroom
Care do's and dont's
DO
* Stick Timberland felt pads or Timberland caster cups to the feet of chairs, tables and furniture to minimise scratching.
* Use Timberland plant coasters to protect floors from scratches and water damage.
* Fit a mat-well by outside doors.
* Move mats and rugs regularly to ensure even colour.
* Clean up all spills immediately. Common sense dictates spills should be removed as soon as possible, certainly before they dry and set. Wipe clean with a well wrung cloth.
DO NOT
* Pour water over the floor, e.g. from a bucket.
* Drag hard, heavy items across the floor, as this will damage it: modern floor finishes are hard, but they are not impregnable.
* Neglect to clean the floor.
