There are lots of different types of wood and each has a specific colour and finish. There are grainy woods, ones with knots and patterns on them that look like the inside of a tree these are good if you want a natural feel to your house and go well with traditional décor. There are those which look smooth this can be highly finished and look good with more modern interiors. Then there are the variety of colours there are colours from pale beige to almost black. This is key to how you want your house to look too. A pale colour is good for a small house as it will make it look bigger than it is and will add light and space to small dark rooms. A dark colour looks good in bigger rooms as it makes a statement, this is the same of wood with a large grain or pattern on it. A wood with a large grain on it can be rather overpowering in a small room but that is very much dependent on your own taste.
