A Quick Guide

Hardwood flooring is known for its durability, and for this reason many homeowners opt to use it in areas of the house where footsteps often pound: hallways, kitchens and even living rooms.
Whilst wood flooring can match the daily routine of even the busiest households far better than say, most laminate flooring or carpets, it will still, after years and years of constant use become scratched, or start to loose the warmth of shine it once radiated up toward you.
When this becomes the case many people call someone in to refinish the flooring to return the flooring to the look it boasted when it was first installed.
With a bit of time and care it is perfectly possibly for homeowners to restore their flooring themselves. Here are some pointers:
Firstly, you’ll need to clear the room in question, and make sure it is well ventilated – open all available windows and doors.
Then you’ll need to sand the floor. The most feasible way to do this is to use a sanding machine. At least, use one first, and then touch up with fine sandpaper afterwards if there are any scratches that the sanding machine did not see to. You’ll then to clean the newly sanded boards, along with the skirting boards too in all likelihood.
Once the boards are clean of dust and other debris from the sanding process you can varnish them. The first, base coat, should be brushed on with a wide brush in as even strokes as you can manage. Let this dry and then apply as many coats on top as you need to get the floor looking the way it once did. Once those are dry you can then apply a sealing topcoat.

And hey presto, your wood flooring will look as beautiful as it did the day it was installed.
