in Wood Flooring

It’s a common for even the most novice DIYers to consider, at some point of their planning and buying stage, installing their flooring themselves.

However, unless you have had lots of experience with installing flooring in the past, or are dealing with a simple, glue-less floating floor system or snap-and-lock floating floor system, it is far better to not leave the installation of the floor to chance, but to call in the professionals.

About twenty five years ago, I had a housemate who bought a hugely expensive stereo system. Absolutely cutting edge at the time, it was to replace the mono system which we had had in the house for years before. He set it up, and got us all to admire the improved sound quality. Although not musical myself, I couldn’t really notice too much of a difference, but I nodded and made all the right noises, simply because he’d spent so much money on it and was so proud of his purchase.

Several weeks later, another friend came over, and was ordered to inspect the new stereo. Within under a minute he was looking perturbed, then, without speaking, he went to the back of the amp, yanked some wires out and replaced them into different sockets. The thing had been set up to run in mono – meaning that for all the cost and pride of the thing, the sound quality wasn’t much better than the system it was meant to replace. My housemate looked somewhat sheepish, let me tell you.

The point is – there is no point spending money on the most expensive items you can afford if you are going desecrate their value through poor installation.

With wood flooring, many homeowners and enthusiastic DIY types underestimate the difficulty and precision needed to install flooring themselves. This is partly of course due to the growth in suppliers who do not offer installation services, but simply want the customer to buy a bulk amount of flooring from them – meaning their overheads are limited to the distribution network, but do not have to cover the cost of mobile installation teams and everything associated with them.

At Timberland Flooring, we believe that customers should have the right to choose not just the best quality product, but the best quality finish – that’s why we offer professional members of staff to measure and fit all the floors that we sell.
